Some days, I think I should quit while I’m ahead. The image on the lower right is our starting image (cat 591419 by daniel eduard doman on unsplash.com). Because only part of the cat’s face is lit, it takes on a bit of an eerie quality. I thought, at first, that I could just add light to the other side of the cat to get the whole face. Wrong. I tried several comps using the cat as a paining in a frame, but really got interested after I mirrored the image into a whole cat. I made a brush from the white and midtone areas of the cat, and then I made a pattern of the same thing. I was way happier with the images using the brush and pattern than the original image. The two images above use pattern and brush.
Which image do you think best exemplifies the odd catness of the starting image?
Most of the images I used in my composites are from AdobeStock. The wall art in the dress composite is from a local artist, Marge Rivett. I’ve also used textures from a Photoshop plug-in called Adobe Paper Texture Pro.
